In the free space, create an ext4 partition for Mint If you had to have a second partition in step 2, delete it. open gparted, select the internal drive and identify which partition holds macOS (by volume name, size, or looking at how much space is occupied inside). shutdown and reboot to your Linux live USB If Disk Utility has progressed and allows you to do so, then it's best to leave unformatted space for your Linux install Normally the partition holding your system should remain the first one. For instance give a different volume name or a different size. If it's still the case, then make the second partition in APFS and find a way to note which partition holds your system (you dont want to erase that one). Disk Utility could not just leave free unformatted space. ![]() (back then, hfs+ was the filesystem used by macOS, now it's APFS)īack when I did this, you had to make another partition to do this, i.e. ![]() ![]() Last time I did this was several years ago, so take my instructions with a grain of salt.
